VITAMIN B12

Where do we find it?

Our bodies require a daily intake of essential vitamins and minerals in order to properly function. If one of these vitamins is deficient, it can result in serious health problems. Most of our B12 comes from our diet found in meat & shellfish. Those who are unable to absorb an adequate amount of B12 due to dietary restrictions or health problems may need to get a natural supplement through a B12 shot. The shot is a quick way to get your B12 levels back to where they should be. An injection of B12 can bring on immediate health benefits.

BENEFITS OF B12

What Are the Health Benefits of Vitamin B12?

Vitamin B12 can help boost your body’s energy levels by preventing fatigue, helping you to lose weight and also by lowering the risk of heart disease and other serious health concerns. It’s also essential for the health of your skin, hair and nails.

Its other benefits include boosting your brain by slowing down memory loss, alleviating anxiety and aiding sleep.

Read on to find out more about each benefit of Vitamin B12.

1. Prevents Fatigue

Vitamin B12 is required for the production of red blood cells that carry oxygen and nutrients around the body. Many patients suffering from a B12 deficiency visit their GP complaining of tiredness and fatigue.

2. Gives You an Energy Boost

B12 assists in the process of converting food into glucose, which the body requires for energy production.

3. Improves Brain Power

Vitamin B12 plays a role in supporting mental and cognitive performance, shows a significant reduction in those that suffer with brain fog..

4. Lowers the Risk of Heart Disease

B12 lowers levels of a compound known as homocysteine that is linked to increased risk of heart attacks and stroke.

5. Slows Down Memory Loss

Vitamin B12 can slow down memory loss – compared to the use of lower and higher serum vitamin B12 concentrations in ageing patients and found that those who’d had the higher dose performed better in memory tasks.

6. Protects You Against Cancer & Other Diseases

B12 has been found to be key in preventing and combatting a number of serious health concerns, including various types of cancer.

7. Helps Support Your Weight Loss

B12 boosts the metabolism so increasing levels of this vitamin can be an invaluable support if you’re trying to lose weight through diet. It’s energy-giving benefits will also aid your efforts in the gym.

8. Alleviates Anxiety

B12 can help fight mood swings, loss of focus and depression in a number of ways. One way it does this is by synthesising melatonin, dopamine and serotonin, the chemical messengers that influence your moods.

9. Aids Sleep

As well as regulating your mood, melatonin also controls your sleeping patterns and if you’re suffering from a B12 deficiency, a common side effect is being unable to sleep and then feeling tired throughout the day.

10. Helps Improve Your Appearance

B12 is essential for the health of your skin, hair and nails as it plays a role in cell reproduction and therefore the renewal of your skin.

BIOTIN VITAMIN

Where do we find it?

Biotin can be found in brewer's yeast; cooked eggs, especially egg yolk; sardines; nuts (almonds, peanuts, pecans, walnuts) and nut butters; soybeans; other legumes (beans, black eye peas); whole grains; cauliflower; bananas; and mushrooms.

Raw egg whites contain a protein called Avidin that interferes with the body's absorption of biotin.

Food-processing techniques can destroy biotin. Less-processed versions of the foods listed above contain more biotin.

BENEFITS OF BIOTIN

Biotin, also known as Vitamin H, is known for its ability to make hair strong and shiny, preventing hair loss, and also to strengthen brittle nails. It’s also an essential component in helping the body convert food into energy, and helping to metabolise fats and protein.

1. Supports metabolic rates

Along with boosting metabolism, biotin can also aid in weight loss. Essentially, consuming or ingesting biotin elevates your resting rate of metabolism. As this vitamin increases your metabolism, it can help accelerate weight loss.

2. Supports healthy cell growth

One of vitamin H’s primary roles is to regulate the formation of DNA. This ensures that the genetic information in each cell works properly and replicates correctly. Though strong cell development is always important, it’s especially critical when your cells are dividing rapidly, such as during pregnancy.

3. Helps with hair loss by encouraging hair growth

One of the biggest benefits of biotin is that it helps stimulate hair growth, causing hair to thicken and appear more lustrous. Biotin can also help hair look healthier while growing more quickly and sustainably. This is beneficial for healthy people who want their hair to look its best, as well as those with health issues that lead to lacklustre hair.

4. Helps maintain skin & nails

For many people, a Vitamin H deficiency can also lead to significant problems with their skin’s inner health and outer appearance. Dry, itchy skin is one of the most common issues, although more serious conditions like acne and psoriasis can also arise. Keep in mind that if you don’t nourish your skin from the inside out, resulting hormonal issues can result in serious skin problems. In most cases, a biotin supplement can correct the issue, improving skin and helping to create a youthful glow.  Higher doses of biotin have resulted in significant nail health improvement. Studies have shown that those who take a biotin supplement can thicken their nails by up to 25 percent and decrease the amount of nail splitting and breakage they endure.

5. Helps radiate blood sugars & bad cholesterol

For diabetics or those who struggle with maintaining a healthy blood sugar level, biotin can be particularly helpful. Studies have shown that this B complex vitamin has the power to lower blood glucose levels in people with both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes by stimulating the secretion of insulin. Research has shown that this vitamin can help lower LDL levels while increasing levels of high-density lipoprotein, otherwise known as the good cholesterol. Since B complex vitamins are also important in reducing inflammation and plaque build-up in arteries, biotin can also help lower the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Diabetics and others who are particularly susceptible to heart disease will find this benefit particularly helpful. dose performed better in memory tasks.

6. Supports the immune system

Previous studies have shown that biotin deficiency impacts the functions of immune function particularly those of NK and T cells. Investigations into the effect of biotin on DC functions revealed that deficiency of this vitamin results in enhanced pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion from DCs.

7. Protects brain function

Along with the other B complex vitamins, biotin keeps your nervous system in working order by assisting with neurotransmitter activity and helping with nerve signals. Together, B vitamins also protect your brain, improve your memory, and help form a defence against cognitive issues and neurodegenerative disorders

VITAMIN C

Where do we find it?

Vitamin C, which is also known as ascorbic acid has several important functions it carries out in the body. It can be found in a wide variety of foods; mainly citrus fruit such as oranges and in vegetables like broccoli, sprouts and potatoes.

BENEFITS OF VITAMIN C

What Are the Health Benefits of Vitamin C?

Vitamin C is a powerful natural antioxidant and helps to protect the body. It is vital for healthy skin, blood vessels, bones, and cartilage. It also promotes and aids in healing.

Not getting enough Vitamin C can leave you feeling sluggish, run-down, prone to frequent bouts of illness, and looking tired.

Injecting Vitamin C delivers the perfect amount of this vital vitamin directly, leaving you feeling and looking fantastic. Because the injections are delivered directly into the bloodstream, they are perfect for those with sensitive stomachs, as oral supplements can irritate the stomach. The body only absorbs 15% of an oral supplement, whereas it can take in much more when it is delivered via injection

.

Vitamin C has a positive impact on skin pigmentation, free radicals, resistance to allergies and some health conditions.

1. Supports Energy & Metabolism

Our bodies need vitamin C in order to efficiently convert the food and drinks we consume into energy. It also helps us to absorb other vitamins, minerals and other micronutrients to keep our bodies ticking over nicely.1

2. Helps Maintain Psychological Function

When your body is very deficient in vitamin C, you are at high risk for scurvy. Depression, personality changes, listlessness and general malaise are some of the symptoms, making vitamin C vital for normal mental health.

Vitamin C also helps our body cells communicate with each other and contributes to the synthesis of some hormones (noradrenaline and adrenaline).  These hormones help to regulate your mood and ability to concentrate. They also work with other hormones to help the body respond to exercise and stress

3. Supports The Immune System

Our immune system is responsible for keeping us healthy – and the stronger it is, the better. Everyone’s immune system needs Vitamin C to function normally, so keep it topped up!

Researcher found that taking a vitamin C supplement could reduce the rate of colds & viruses in active people by 50% and helps to fight allergies like a natural antihistamines.

4. Helps Maintain Bones & Cartilage

Vitamin C plays a big part in keeping our cartilage and bones strong by helping our bodies to make collagen. Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies and acts as a scaffold to provide structure and strength.

About 90% of the matrix proteins in our bones are collagen, so it makes sense that it is good for our bones and cartilage.

5. Improves Skin Appearance

If you feel like your skin needs a boost – vitamin C could help!

Do you ever wonder why we get those fine lines and wrinkles as we age? The decline in elasticity and ‘plumpness’ in our skin is due, for the most part, to our natural collagen levels decreasing as we age.

6. Reduces Tiredness & Fatigue

Feeling tired and fatigued sometimes is normal – especially if you lead a busy lifestyle or exercise a lot.

However, if you’re feeling exhausted all the time is a sure sign that your body is struggling to convert the energy you give it into action.

7. Helps Create Vitamin E

When our bodies perform certain tasks, e.g. fat oxidisation, by-products get left behind.

Some of these by-products can be upcycled with the help of vitamin C to make a reduced form of vitamin E. Clever eh!

It’s hard for the body to ‘scavenge’ them if too many accumulate, creating oxidative stress, so vitamin C is important to reduce the chance of this happening.

8. Helps Iron Absorption

Not only does vitamin C do a good job on its own, it can help other micronutrients do their job too!

Vitamin C helps our bodies to absorb iron – one of the most important minerals for health. Iron is an important component of haemoglobin, which is found in our red blood cells and carries oxygen from our lungs to the rest of our bodies.

9. It’s A Potent Antioxidant

Vitamin C is a natural antioxidant. Antioxidants help the body to protect its DNA, proteins and lipids from oxidative damage caused by rogue particles in our bodies called free radicals.

Free radical build up in the body can be detrimental to health, so the more protection we can get, the better.

10. Supports Gum & Teeth Health

Although a lack of vitamin C may not cause gum disease, research suggests that it can support healthy gums. A 2003 study on patients with periodontitis (a common type of gum disease) found that they had lower levels of vitamin C in their blood.

VITAMIN D

Where do we find it?

The best food sources of vitamin D are oily fish, including salmon, mackerel, and sardines. Other sources include egg yolks, red meat, and liver.  Vitamin D is added to some foods too, including breakfast cerealsplant milks and fat spreads. Check information on-pack to see if this applies to the products you buy.

BENEFITS OF VITAMIN D

We need vitamin D to keep our bones, teeth, and muscles healthy. One in six adults in the UK has low levels of vitamin D in their blood, which means they are at greater risk of developing a deficiency.

Even if you eat vitamin D-rich foods, it’s unlikely that you will get all the vitamin D you need from your food. It’s recommended that we have 10 micrograms of vitamin D each day, but the average intake in the UK from food is thought to be less than three micrograms. Most of our vitamin D is made through our skin when we are outside in daylight.

From April to September in the UK, sunlight plus a healthy balanced diet will be enough to meet most people’s needs. From October to March, it’s recommended that we take vitamin D. People who don’t go outside much, or who cover up when they go outside, should take a supplement all year round.  One Injection around October is enough to see you through the winter months or you can have up to 3 times per year if you are not able to go outside to get your intake.

1. Supports metabolic rates

Vitamin D helps in the absorption and use of calcium, which is needed to develop strong bones. Therefore, reduces the risk of fractures.

2. Fights infection including skin issues

Improves the function of the immune system to fight against infection. Helps to

3. Helps cancer patients

For example, a low level of vitamin D has shown to increase the risk of colon cancer and can have a negative impact on the survival of these patients.

4. Protective against heart disease

The Framingham Heart Study found that patients with low levels of Vitamin D have a 60% higher risk of heart disease.

5. Reduces risk of Hypertension

Vitamin D injection can be useful to reduce systolic blood pressure in those at risk of hypertension.

6. Improves symptoms of depression

High doses of vitamin D have shown to ameliorate symptoms of depression.

7. Other areas vitamin D can help with

Other studies have shown reduction in the risk of cognitive decline, Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and can help reduce the incidence of influenza in the winter months.
