Lip Blush Aftercare

Following your aftercare is vital to achieve the best results.  If during the healing process you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to contact Lou.   Please remember Lip Tattooing is a multiple session treatment (2 typically needed)

Normal symptoms you may experience for 4-7 days

Swelling, redness, tenderness

Dry flaking skin as the lips heal

DO’S

  • Clean the lips daily with the solution in your kit using a cotton pad.  Damp cotton pads or water wipes are fine to clean with too.

  • Cold packs can be applied to the lips to reduce swelling and help with sensitivity.

  • Apply a thin layer of healing balm regularly using a cotton bud (not fingers), use a new cotton buds each time to prevent cross contamination (infection).

  • Drink through a straw for the first 3 days and avoid spicy food.

DON’T’S

  • Do not Pick, peel or touch the lips as you will heal unevenly and risk infection from bacteria.

  • Do not kiss anyone for 5 days

  • Do not apply make up on your lips for 1 week.

  • Do not apply too much balm, a thick layer or too much balm will cause build up on the lips.  Less is more!

  • Do not submerge your lips in water for 1 week.

  • Do not wear a face mask for a long period of time - bacteria harbours and causes infection.

  • Do not receive skincare or beauty treatments for 1 week

  • Do not receive any waxing, electrolysis or laser hair removal treatments close to the lip area for 2 weeks.

  • Do not expose your lips to direct sun or tanning treatments for at least 2 weeks and always wear SPF on lips

  • Do not go in jacuzzis, saunas, salt water, chlorinated pools or direct showers sprays whilst lips are healing.

  • Do not use lip plumping products for 2 weeks.

  • Do not receive any lip filler or botox injections around the lip are for 4 weeks.

If you suffer from coldsores at present or any time in the past then use an anti herpes medication topically such as Zovirax, 5 times a day for a 1 week period.  If an outbreak does occur which it can be triggered by needle trauma then it will usually present itself around the 3rd day of healing, if this happens stop using the healing balm and continue with cold sore cream only applying with clean cotton bud each time.

Remember your selected colour will be stronger and more sharply defined immediately after your treatment.

HEALING STAGES

  • Day 1-2 the colour will appear darker

  • Day 2-5 they may get itchy and flakes of colour may come away from the skin, this will come off in patches and is completely normal.

  • Once Flaked Completely the pigment may appear light in colour - the chosen pigment will blossom during the following 4 weeks healing period.

  • 2 Weeks the true colour will be visible and the external skin will be healed.

  • 4 Weeks the internal skin has healed.

Keep in mind that in many cases, some unevenness of colour is expected and this is the purpose of your second appointment to make any necessary adjustments.

Long Term Care

  • Use a good sunscreen.  Sun exposure will fade your lip blush, an SPF50 is recommended.

  • Please inform the National Blood Service if you donate blood, as you may not be eligible to donate blood for 4 months post treatment.

Infection Control

Proper care of your lips is an absolute must when it comes down to aftercare.  To prevent an infection happening during the healing process you must look after your new lip blush following the above instructions to the letter.

The treatment is a sterile procedure, everything is one use only and disposable.  Equipment and the whole area is cleaned and sanitised before every client treatment.  If you show any signs of infection this is down to poor aftercare.  If you experience any yellow oozing on the area contact your GP immediately for a course of antibiotics.
